 about brickthrewglass

Brick threw glass is a Movie review website. Brick threw glass is a metaphor I made up for film, the BRICK is the anamorphic shot blocking, and GLASS is the camera lens , the word THREW is a play on words, should have been thru but, I used the words THREW. This website reviews and critics films in a different way,using humor it also tries to interject some of my technical knowledge of how films are created and made into the process.

image: titlte: no spoiler reviews
OK “We don’t do spoilers”; it’s my policy to be very vague about the story lines of the films I review here. I have always hated reading movie reviews that tell to much about a film. Entering a theater already having preconceived notions about the plot and / or the outcome of the film in the past have ruined the viewing experience for me,so this is why  these reviews are written this way . More info about our NO Spoiler Movie Review!

28 Days Later 2002 :: movie review

28 Days Later 2002 :: movie review

 28 Days Later starts as three animal rights activists break into an experimental primate facility and un-cage a monkey exposed to a deadly virus (that is described as RAGE). When our hero Jim (Cillian Murphy) awakens from a coma in a deserted hospital (28 days later), he walks the empty streets of London until he is attacked by the infected and saved then befriended by to survivors who blow up a whole city block to escape. This movie is very intense for the first 20 minutes and absorbs you into it like a sponge, I and probably everyone who sees this film asks ones selves what they would do in this situation. There is money blowing down the streets and no one around, do you pick it up? Is it even worth anything anymore? Jim’s solution was to walks into a church after the he realizes what has happened to everyone, to pray I would guess. The big difference between a British film like this and an American one I noticed was the lack of guns, the characters in the movie use bats and machetes to kill the undead, and there isn’t a shot fired for a good part of the movie. If this was done in Hollywood it would have been more like a Raccoon City in Resident Evil where there was allot of shooting, but this is a deeper primal struggle. This is one of the best post-apocalyptic films I’ve seen and with the scenes of the British capital devoid human life is really so spooky, surreal and strangely beautiful.

28 Days Later 2002 :: movie review

This is a masterpiece of modern film making: the start of this movie is so realistic, I read that they had to block off downtown for very brief moments and used digital cameras to quickly capture the images. This a also a great screenplay and writer Alex Garland nails it as to what one would say in this unperceivable situation and film director Danny Boyle hit a home run with his visionary touch that went on to get him the best director Oscar last years for Slumdog Millionaire. This could have been something so different but with great casting and well acted scenes this film takes the Sci-Fi / Horror movie to (what at the time and still is) a new level and added a human touch with some deep drama. The cast of Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Noah Huntley, Brendan Gleeson and Christopher Eccleston, all do a superb job and immerse themselves deeply into the characters and it show in the final product. This is on my list of the ten best Sci-fi / action movies of all-time and if you haven’t seen it you should…
