 about brickthrewglass

Brick threw glass is a Movie review website. Brick threw glass is a metaphor I made up for film, the BRICK is the anamorphic shot blocking, and GLASS is the camera lens , the word THREW is a play on words, should have been thru but, I used the words THREW. This website reviews and critics films in a different way, using humor it also tries to interject some of my technical knowledge of how films are created and made into the process.

image: titlte: no spoiler reviews
OK “We don’t do spoilers”; it’s my policy to be very vague about the story lines of the films I review here. I have always hated reading movie reviews that tell to much about a film. Entering a theater already having preconceived notions about the plot and / or the outcome of the film in the past have ruined the viewing experience for me,so this is why  these reviews are written this way .  Orphan: movie review 2009 . Orphan is a horror film about a family that adopts a 9 year old girl into their family after Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John Coleman (Peter Sarsgaard) try to have a third child and fail. Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) is the new addition to the family seems so nice, she has polished manners and like to paint. But, you guessed it there is a dark and sinister secret.  After some so-called accidents and weird things start to happen. She gets kind of creepy and you all know how we love scary kids in movies, its been a theme that Hollywood has use for decades.

This movie has some great cinematography and the set is this house that is kind of scary on its own. Kate the mother is composing music on her piano and that was an interesting kind of subplot, she gives Easter piano lessons. Also the paintings that Easter is creating during the film are really cool too, and defiantly add to the intrigue as to what up with this young troubled girl.

Vera Farmiga is well cast in the lead, and in my not so humble opinion is a standout in the cast.  Isabelle Fuhrman is also very good is this movie, she must have really studied hard to keep herself in character during the filming of this film. I’m going to keep away from revealing to much of the story line, I don’t want to ruin it for you. This story is what makes this movie work and even ten minutes into it would be too much to tell you about fairly. This movie is just what you’d expect from a mid-summer horror movie.  With a scary lead in scene that tells you that this is a horror film, to the plot building to an unexpected plot twist.

Orphan: movie review 2009 rating 2.5 stars
Writers Alex Mace for the Screenplay and David Leslie Johnson for the original story, nail it and this film moves along at a nice pace. This is a good not great horror movie and is scary enough to make you squirm in your seat, but relies too much on its kind of creepy plot twist.
